It's been ONE whole year!
THE proposal!
A year ago I was in Tonga for the second time. It had been 11 LONG months since I had seen the man of my dreams with tremendous ups and downs along the way.
When I had returned home from Tonga in January we parted ways (up to me) for about 2-2 1/2 months. We didn't talk hardly at all. We weren't friends on Facebook which was our main form of communication at the time and I had continued dating my ex boyfriend again. As it came time to make some life changing decisions, I made an appointment with my bishop to sort some things out. It was mid June and I wasn't sure walking in what exactly I was going to say to Bishop. So I sat down and began talking with him. All of the sudden the words come out of my mouth with no second thought at all...."I am still in love with Pome'e and never stop thinking about him, I want to marry him" and my bishop said what? And I took a breathe and then realized what I just said and went what? Both of us sat there for a moment and kinda let it sink in before he said "well you better let him know". I went home from that appointment and got on Skype with Nu'u who was in New Zealand at the time staying with his cousin for a wedding. I let him know what had been going on and why I hadn't been talking to him. He graciously and very impressively accepted my reasoning and let me know "I'm glad you're working with the bishop, I'll wait for you". Holy. Heaven! Are you kidding?! I broke this boys heart and haven't talking to him in almost 4 months and that how he takes it? KEEPER! That wasn't the end of the ups and downs in the slightest. Beginning/mid July, same as every year my family visited the beautiful island of Maui,Hawaii as a family. My sister (Cristina) and I were driving down S Kihei road on Skype with Nu'u when I finally just asked a straight up question, "Babe, do you still wanna marry me?" With no hesitation and enthusiasm in his face he said "uh, yeah!" Like, duh! And I said well then let's figure this out! Over the next 5-6 months we researched and did everything we could to try and figure out how to get him here. After one failed visa attempt we came to the conclusion that the only option we had was for him to apply for a Fiancé visa. We put in the application the week before I left for what I thought was my last trip to Tonga before we'd get married! On Monday, December 3 this boy blew my mind and completely melted my heart! In Tonga it is not a very popular or even really accepted thing to see or express affection, to anyone. So the whole "American way" or proposing I thought for sure was out the window. The ward had a picnic on Monday at the beach which him and his sister were suspiciously excited about. They reminded me about it the coming week before too often! Haha so anyway, after playing some volleyball and laying around and relaxing he took me down to the water line. He had everyone there (the youth in the ward) holding up letters to spell out "Will You Marry Me?".....
He got down on one knee and said "McCall Danielle Wheeler will you marry me?"
And of course.....I SAID YES!
By far one of the best days in my entire life! I was so impressed, SO surprised, and SO in love! Don't worry. He shared more heartfelt words with me later of why he wanted to marry me, he was too embarrassed to do that in front of anyone else! I can't believe it's been a year! What a year it's been!
